Designing a New Bathroom

The bathroom is arguable one of the most used rooms in the home, consistently used and sometimes abused by everyone that lives there which makes the planning of a new bathroom a frequent task. Bathrooms are the second most renovated room of the home, beaten out only by the kitchen. Remodeling the bathroom not only keeps it visually appealing and properly functioning, but the extra effort will pay off when it comes time to sell by increasing the value of the property.

When it comes to new bathroom designs, there are a variety of options from which to choose. You might not realize it, but the overall design of the bathroom is affected by every element present – from the toilet and vanity, to lighting and faucets, to floor and wall tiles.

If you are in the market to replace the tiles on the wall, opt for the new 8″ x 13″ tiles; the 4″ x 4″ tiles are an older design and just aren’t as popular anymore. There is also a mold inhibitor on the new tiles. If you can afford it, adding a row of border tiles between the upper wall and lower wall of tile creates a nice accent. If you are replacing floor tiles, the 12″ x 12″ tiles are more visually appropriate for this area.

You will be amazed at what a remarkable visual difference simply changing the faucets for the sink and tub will create for the room. Regardless of your budget, there are a variety of faucets to choose from ranging from low end to high end. Updating the look of the toilet makes a striking difference as well. There are a variety of models to choose from that will look better and increase your water efficiency.

If you are lucky enough to have additional space left over, consider installing a shower separate from the bathtub. You can create a spa-like experience in your new bathrooms simply by reserving the tub for special relaxing moments and installing massaging body sprays in the shower. Consider installing vanities that are suspended above the floor; they create a truly unique touch. They are still strong enough to hold marble or granite counter tops – an elegant finishing touch to add.

Don’t forget to give special consideration to the color of the bathroom; it plays a tremendous role in the overall aesthetic of the room. There is no clear answer to your new bathroom design; depending on the person, the locale, and budget, the design will vary from one spectrum to the other. For someone living in Toledo, their bathroom remodel be inspired by completely different factors than someone living in a different area of the country.

Even though there are many possible solutions, the most important element of a new bathroom is creating a functional, and hopefully relaxing, space to end your day.
