There are many toilets for sale on the market today, ranging anywhere in price, from $100 to over $2000. The most important thing you should think about when purchasing a new toilet is flushing performance. Once you’ve settled on that, then you can start thinking about color preferences, corner toilet tank options or other style considerations. A stylish-looking toilet is nice, but after you get it installed, you might find that it has a tendency to clog every other day, making you frustrated with your purchase. Remember, the more expensive toilets don’t necessarily mean they’re the best option when you’re looking for trouble-free performance or a toilet that contains easily replaceable toilet parts.

There are three main types of toilets to be aware of: gravity toilets, vacuum assist toilets, and pressure assist toilets. The most common are gravity toilets, which are a great option for houses without a high water pressure since gravity is doing all the work. It’s best to purchase a model that features a trapway diameter of at least two inches. Any less than that means you’ll have to take out the toilet plunger more often.

Pressure assist toilets are best for environments that see heavy usage. They offer a powerful flush, and contain an additional pressurized plastic reservoir inside the tank. When the toilet is flushed, most of the water is released into the toilet bowl. The downside to this type of toilet is that they’re very loud, and they might not work in houses that contain older plumbing systems.

Finally there is the vacuum assist toilet. This type creates a suction force on the deposits in the toilet bowl, sucking them into the trapway. A special vacuum chamber pulls air out of the trap below the bowl. Vacuum assist toilets are quieter than pressure assist, plus they’re increasing in popularity.
